Alex’s family established the Alex Kummer Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, to honor Alex’s life and to help with suicide awareness and prevention.

We tragically lost our son, Alexander Anthony Kummer, at the age of 16 years, 5 months, and 2 days to suicide. We never thought this was something that could happen, that one of our own children would die by suicide. Alex was an intelligent, brilliant, wise beyond his years, rational, witty, kind, patient, caring, and compassionate young man with a great group of friends and families that surrounded him. As people have come to us to share how they knew Alex, classmates have told us how he always smiled at them and that he was kind to everyone. Alex had many friends, and many of them considered Alex their best friend. Alex had a bright future ahead of him as he planned to go to Augustana University and had goals to become an Anesthesiologist. We share our story to hopefully help other families not have to go through this same, indescribable pain of child loss.
